The AIA Achievement Awards (American International Assurance)
Foreword Communications conceptualised the annual event for AIA giving the life insurance company ownership of this prestigious annual award which receives widespread news coverage. The award is presented to primary and secondary students and undergraduates who achieve good academic results and are actively involved in community work. The winners are recognised at an awards presentation ceremony which is graced by a senior government official or Minister.
The Samsui Reunion (American International Assurance)
Foreword Communications created this event for single aged samsuis (women labourers) and amahs (domestic servants) during the Chinese New Year. These destitute ladies are invited for a sumptuous lunch at a Chinese restaurant with AIA management and staff. A Member of Parliament is usually invited to attend the lunch. Some of the ladies are also invited to homes of the Company's staff to join in the traditional New Year's Eve reunion dinner.
The Samsui Reunions are given a good deal of media publicity in the run-up to the local Lunar New Year celebrations especially in the Chinese dailies and publications.
The Sheares Bridge Run (NIKE Singapore Pte Ltd)
Foreword Communications worked on publicity ideas and activities to generate increased pre-event and follow-on media coverage of the first few NIKE Sheares Bridge Runs. The 10-km run is now one of the major sporting highlights in Singapore.
Currently organised by the Singapore Reservists Association (SAFRA), the run attracts more than 40,000 runners from the Singapore Armed Forces, the Reservists' Association and the public. A Cabinet Minister usually flags off the early morning run.
GES International Ltd's IPO
Foreword Communications planned and drew up a comprehensive PR plan for the IPO of GES, a homegrown design and contract manufacturer and distributor of point-of-sales terminals, computers and computer-related products. The positive press coverage generated enabled GES to receive a subscription rate of about 17 times for its public offer of 25 million shares.
The successful launch of GES's IPO was the result of a well-planned PR campaign to publicise the Company's capabilities, business strategy and global vision across all mediums.
The Good Furniture Retailers Scheme (Singapore Furniture Industries Council)
The scheme, launched by SFIC, was aimed at educating the public on choosing reputable furniture retailers. It was also meant to upgrade retailing standards of the local furniture industry.
To build a sustained awareness and understanding of the scheme, Foreword Communications developed PR tools comprising articles in the news dailies on furniture issues, TV interviews with retailers on selection of furniture and other communicative tools to educate targeted groups on how to choose good furniture retailers.
The positive news coverage of the scheme greatly assisted the public in making informed decisions when buying furniture. It also helped position SFIC as the authority on furniture retailing and consumer-related issues.
International Furniture Fair Singapore
Foreword Communications worked with SFIC on a consecutive four-year PR programme to publicise the International Furniture Fair Singapore and Asean Furniture Show in Singapore and overseas markets.
The annual four-day international event featuring furniture products and systems from more than 500 exhibitors from around the world is now Asia's premier furniture event.
Golf Column (Palm Resort Golf and Country Club)
To attract new members to sign on with Palm Resort Golf and Country Club in Johor, Malaysia, Foreword Communications devised a fortnightly golf column in The Singapore Business Times which gave useful tips to golf beginners and low handicappers on how to play good golf.
The column, in unison with other PR tools, built a greater awareness of the Club's world-class courses and golf professionals. The positive media coverage in Singapore and Malaysia attracted a large number of new members from Singapore.
Law Awareness Weekend (The Law Society of Singapore)
Foreword Communications worked on the publicity programme for the two-day public exhibition at the Raffles City Atrium organised by The Law Society of Singapore. The event was aimed at helping members of the public become more aware of their legal rights.
Free legal advice by volunteer lawyers was one of the highlights of the event. Massive pre-event and follow-on publicity contributed to the success of the event.
The Herpes Awareness Campaign (Wellcome Singapore)
To build an increased awareness of Zovirax as an effective treatment for the herpes virus, Foreword Communications devised a number of PR activities to communicate this message. These included a toll-free hotline to answer queries on herpes disease states and treatment sources. The hotline was launched with the Singapore National Skin Centre and received overwhelming response from the public.
Together with sustained media coverage of the herpes affliction and resultant treatment sources, sales of Zovirax rose significantly in Singapore during and after the campaign.
The Viagra Awareness Campaign For The Treatment Of Erectile Dysfunction (Pfizer)
To build an awareness of Viagra as the only effective oral drug for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED), Foreword Communications launched an intensive PR campaign to educate targeted groups on ED and dispel perceived misconceptions of the affliction and the effectiveness of the drug's use.
Movers Of Hope (Emery Worldwide)
Foreword Communications brought together Emery Worldwide, a global transportation Company and ARENA (A Recycling Network in Action), a volunteer group, to work jointly on a community-based programme to ship recycled and usable items from Singapore to needy organisations in the Asia Pacific.
The annual event involved the collection of unwanted yet usable items from the public by Emery and ARENA volunteers. The day-long collection drive at Emery's warehouse and the Youth Park in the city ended with a Rock & Recycle Concert to drive home the recycling message to Singaporeans.
Emery's community service event received widespread coverage in all the major dailies and television, emphasizing Emery's role as a caring and committed corporate citizen
The Ty Beanie Babies Celebrity Auction (Ty Asia)
Foreword Communications organised the auction to raise funds for the Assisi Children's Centre to provide a day centre and nursing home for children with cancer. The auction conducted online at yahoo.com.sg involved the bidding of more than 60 unique Ty Beanie Babies autographed by famous Singapore personalities from television, radio, theatre and sports.
Mrs Goh Chok Tong, the wife of Singapore's Prime Minister, autographed the first Beanie to kick off the auction. The celebrity event gave widespread media coverage to Ty's Beanie Babies.
Jurong Island - Singapore's Petrochemical Hub
Foreword Communications organised the groundbreaking ceremony for Lonza Singapore Pte Ltd in 1996, the first of many PR events which were to take place on Jurong Island, long before the Jurong Island Causeway was completed three years later.
All logistics and operational tie-ups for these events were made more difficult as no land bridge was in existence. These obstacles did not hinder Foreword Communications from managing highly successful events and ceremonies on the island.
To date, Foreword Communications have been responsible for more than 10 PR events for companies on Jurong Island. They include: Air Products, BASELL Eastern, Celanese, Croda, JTC Corporation, Lonza, Mitsui Chemicals, Rotary Engineering, Singapore Syngas, Poval and Teijin Polycarbonate.
